What is Tech Talk With Hawke?

by Hawke last modified 2006-12-26 10:43

Tech Talk with Hawke is a weekly radio broadcast discussing topics related to the effects of technology and it's impact on privacy, security, and civil rights.

Tech Talk with Hawke is a weekly broadcast that attempts to introduce and update the general public on the constantly changing world of technology, and how tech affects most everyone in their daily lives. This show provides a strong emphasis on reporting news that impacts privacy, security, or civil rights.

This is a non-commercial show. There is also some emphasis on alternative platforms, software, and technologies that many people either have not heard about, or know little about, because of lack of discussion in the "mainstream media". Alternatives such as open source software products, operating systems options, and approaches to daily living when interfacing with the now ever-pervasive impact of technology in much of the world.

The host, Hawke, has been working with computers since 1981 when he first started programming and developing software at 11 years old. He has worked in various facets of the technology and security industries (as well as other industries) for more than 20 years.

Hawke has worked hands-on in most every area of the Information Technology industry including having been a software developer in many scripting/shell/database/programming languages (BASIC, Pascal, AREXX, C, C++, VC++, VB, Cobol, SQL/T-SQL/PL-SQL, Perl, Php, Python, Java, etc) a personal computer systems build technician, a network administrator, systems administrator for many operating systems (DOS, Windows, OS/2, Mac OS, Netware, Wang, AIX, HP-UX, SunOS/Solaris, Amiga, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, & Linux), database administrator (Oracle, Sybase, Informix, DB2, Postgresql, MS SQL, and MySql), webmaster, architect, analyst, technology instructor and guest speaker at various colleges, and more. He has a degree in Computer Science, and has earned a number of certifications over the years (SANS Institute (SysAdmin,Audit, Network, Security)-GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification)-GCIH (GIAC Certified Incident Handler), CNA, MCSE, MCP+I, SCSA, RHCE, and advanced training in addition to the more than 20+ years of experience. He has also been "published" by The SANS Institute and the Malware FAQs for PPTP exploits of Microsoft's VPN implementation. In fact his document is the number one hit in Google under that term out of (as of December 26th, 2006) over 281,000 other "hits".

He has been in many management and executive leadership roles as well as worked as an independent contractor, from Director of Operations to CIO, CTO, & CEO for companies ranging from only a handful of systems and employees, to large corporations with many thousands of systems and users world-wide.

Hawke retired in 2003 to be able to spend time with his family raising his children. So you do not have to worry about the show trying to sell you products or services. The show is about knowledge and information that most media do no care to hear, or even do not want the public to know on a broad basis, but the public NEEDS to know.

Hawke has been a strong advocate and activist for Open Source Development, improved Security practices and company security cultural development.

This diverse background provides a wide range, breadth, and in many areas a depth, that you will not get on other techology shows. And, you will hear about topics, news, technology, and alternatives to technologies and security practices that you are likely not to hear on any other broadcast medium.

Currently the "Tech Talk With Hawke" show is a sub-segment of "The Synthetic Zen Show", but the process is nearing completion for approval by the Programming Board at KYRS FM, for a separate 1 hour weekly show.
